I hear you, but lets look at the costs, the ease of use and the hidden features that can be of great benefit to you. Also blogs are a cheap website design trick.Why? because they are easy to use, easy to setup, and easy to upgrade to into an elegant look and feel when you are ready.

First, cost there are several free Blog website platforms available. These blog sites allow you to have a Blog with the main Blog company's address first and then your Blog listed. This is sometimes too long and address for people to remember and for marketing purposes can be a pain. Most of the free blog services will allow you to purchase your own domain name or blog name and the add that to the address. The good features of these are cost, low or no cost, speed, the site can be up and running in about thirty minutes, and ease of use.

Now, the not so good features are that you do not own and totally control the content on the pages. The sites do. What this means is they can remove your Blog and delete your content at anytime. This may not be important to you but if you are running a hobby site with lots of important content pages for fellow hobbyists this can be bad news. Over night you could have all that information disappear.

So the alternative is to own your own blog site. The way to do this is to use WordPress.org, a separate organization from Wordpress.com. With WordPress.org you purchase your own domain name( your website name) and hosting then set up the blog yourself or have some one else do it for you. It is still very easy to do it yourself but depending on the various features you want you may need some help. For instance if you want to sell products or have an online shopping cart setup this may require a bit more skilled help.

Now back to Blog as compared to a website. If you run a small business that involves lots of updates and news then a blog is prefect for you. With very little practice you can learn to update, post and manage comments, add pictures even video to your small business blog in no time. This is a great advancement form the days when you needed to pay a web designer or web master to make even the smallest change to your website.

Another great feature of the Blog site is it allows for feed back via comments. Your visitors can leave real time feed back and comments. In the old days companies paid big time for this kind of information, now you can have it almost free in real time. This allows you to address customers' concerns and also their requests.

Now here is where a blog and a traditional website need to be evaluated more closely. If you have a business or hobby website that has a large amount of important archived material and content that your visitors and or customers need to reference then the traditional website is more what your would need.
